The symbol of the Solar Plexus is depicted as a sun and is yellow in colour, representing its inner power and vital function to feed the body with exuberant warmth and vitality. The Solar Plexus chakra translates to “lustrous gem” and is a great source of personal power and transformation.

The Solar Plexus chakra is the centre of willpower and your perception of who you are. Sensing your personal power and harnessing the qualities of confidence, responsibility, and reliability enables you to use your personal power in a balanced manner. If you are assertive and self-assured in your actions the direction of your intention and desires becomes more focussed, allowing you to achieve what you set out to and follow things through. A balanced Solar Plexus chakra set you on course to being proactive and using the power of transformation to your advantage, rather then reactive or inactive. When you achieve this balance you are connecting deeply to the energy of this chakra.

The Solar Plexus chakra is also responsible for digesting the emotions of the mind. It is a centre of strong intuition, which is why you often get a good ‘gut feeling’ about something, or you make decisions by ‘going with your gut’. We often underestimate the signposts of the gut which serves to guide us towards something good or away from something that can do us harm.

When you are really angry with someone you may find yourself saying ‘I want to rip his guts out’ or ‘I hate her guts’. These expressions come from your gut also connecting with the emotional centre of another who has hurt or angered you.

Holding on to strong negative emotions within this area, can lead to dis-ease within the body. If you have experienced trauma, either physically or emotionally, it can literally make you ‘sick to your stomach’.

Imbalanced chakra

When your Solar Plexus chakra is open and strong, you can express emotion comfortably, have a strong sense of self-purpose and a warrior-like energy when out of balance you may be controlled by the emotions of anger, control, hopelessness, a lack of empathy and may feel exhausted. A deficiency in the chakra may present as being passive, inactive or as low self-esteem.
